Mothers Day

Mother’s Day will be celebrated this coming Sunday, a time when we celebrate the special part Mothers and Grandmothers play in all our lives.

‘Mothers are the sweetest gift from God, to us’.

There is no way we can ever really thank our Mothers for all they do for us, nevertheless we must make it a habit to keep reminding ourselves of the various sacrifices they make and the abundant and limitless love our Mothers give.

To the Mothers within our school community, teachers, staff, and parents alike, we extend our sincerest gratitude. Your unwavering dedication to nurturing the minds and hearts of our children we are truly grateful for. You are the heartbeat of our school, and for that, we are blessed to have you in our lives.

On behalf of the school, I take this opportunity to wish all the Mother’s and Grandma’s of the school a Happy Mother’s Day. I hope you have a very enjoyable and relaxing day and that you receive all of the love and spoils you deserve.

During the week the students have had the wonderful opportunity to visit the ‘Mother’s Day Stall’ and to pick a special gift or two to surprise their mums with. I sincerely thank the P&F and parent volunteers for all of their hard work in organising this and enabling the students to purchase a secret something for this Sunday.

The Mother’s Day Stall will also be open from 8:30am on Friday 10 May, for 3-Year-Old Kindy and for the students who missed out on Tuesday.

Feast Day

Tomorrow, Friday 10 May marks the Feast Day for our patron saint, St Damien of Molokai. We will be having a ‘Feast Day’ Mass at 9:00am, to start the day, to mark this significant event. During the day the students in Pre Primary to Year 6 will be engaging in some ‘Buddy’ activities, as well as enjoying a free sausage sizzle at recess. The canteen will run as normal, on this day and gluten free options for the sausage sizzle will be made to those students requiring it.

Community Fun Day

Last Sunday the St Damien’s Parish ‘Community Fun Day’ was held and what a great day it was. Thank you to all of the families in the school who were able to assist with the fun day, by either volunteering at the event or providing donations to the stalls. It was great to see so many students come along and join in the fun.

Well done to Fr Chris and his team for organising such a great event.

WA Walk to School Day

This Friday 10 May is National Walk Safely to School Day. It is a day where we encourage families to walk to school to improve their physical and mental wellbeing and to have a positive impact on the environment. Weather permitting, we hope some families are able to participate in this initiative.

Parent Teacher Interviews

Thank you to all parents who were able to attend the Parent Teacher meetings last Thursday. I hope meetings provided the opportunity to get an insight and understanding of how their child is progressing at school and got to discuss potential learning goals set for the remainder of the year.

A special thank you to all of our teaching staff for their efforts in preparing for and hosting the meetings. I would like to also thank all support staff in the school who assisted with the planning of the meetings and for assisting with the supervision of the students onsite.

PSSA Sports

Unfortunately, tomorrow’s PSSA fixture has been postponed, due to thunderstorms being forecasted for the day. The fixture against Ocean Road Primary School has been rescheduled to Friday 14 June.

Next Friday 17 May, St Damien’s will host Pinjarra Primary School for the next PSSA fixture.

Book Fair

For the remainder of this week and Monday, Tuesday & Wednesday of next week, the Book Fair is being held in the Library, where students and parents can purchase books before and after school. Feel free to visit the library, from 8:15am to view the books and resources on offer.

Triathlon Champions

Congratulations to Ariah-Rose Vallance, Tyler Penny and Darcy Barker for their efforts in participating in the junior triathlon in Busselton on the weekend. They all completed the 200 metre swim, 4 kilometre bike ride and 1 kilometre run, which is fantastic, and they received a medal for their efforts.
