Next Wednesday 14 February is Ash Wednesday. This day has been traditionally a Christian day of repentance, prayer and fasting and marks the beginning of the Lenten period. To celebrate Ash Wednesday, students in Years 3 to 6 will be celebrating a Mass at 9:00am and students in Kindy to Year 2 will celebrate a Liturgy, beginning at 11:30am.

Parent Information Sessions

Thank you to all of the parents who were able to attend the Parent Information Sessions this week. I hope you found the sessions useful in understanding the operations and procedures of your child’s classroom, as well as got the opportunity to meet the classroom teacher. Thank you to all staff for their time and efforts in planning and running these Information Sessions for our parents.

For any parents who were unable to attend the Parent Information Sessions, please feel free to contact your child’s classroom teacher and make an appointment to meet and discuss the year ahead.

'Surf Online Safely' Cyber Safety Session

As mentioned in my previous correspondence, all parents are invited to attend an E-Safe workshop, presented by Paul Litherland, from ‘Surf Online Safely’, on Wednesday 21 February, beginning at 6:00pm. Paul is considered nationally as one of Australia’s leading educators in the field of Internet Awareness and is very well known and respected within the Catholic Education network. As a former Western Australian Police Officer, Paul offers some great knowledge and experience to help parents better understand the risks children are being exposed to in the online world. This event is for parents of students of all ages, as students are accessing the internet at a very young age.

Year 3 - 6 Swimming Lessons

Swimming lessons begin next week for our students in Years 3 to 6. I hope they enjoy the lessons being held at Avalon Beach and continue to improve in their swimming and water safety skills and knowledge.

Year 3 to 6 Swimming Trials

The date for swimming trials has been moved to Tuesday 20 February, at the MARC, for students in years 3 to 6. Information regarding the timing of the swimming trials has gone home to parents.

St Damien's 20th Year Celebration

Tickets are now on sale for the upcoming 20th year celebration of the school, occurring on Saturday 23 March. This is going to be a great event where all parents, present and past, are welcome to come along and celebrate this significant milestone of the school. This is a ticketed event, with ticket sales now available. Please contact the office if you need assistance purchasing tickets.

Medical Action Plans

It is that time of the year again where all documentation needs to be completed and returned to school. Could I ask that all priority is placed on parents who need to return medical action forms and anaphylaxis management forms and asthma action plans to the school as soon as possible to ensure we can provide a safe environment for the students. Thank you to those families who have already provided an updated copy of your child’s medical action plans.
