Lent

In this fourth week of Lent, in the gospel readings, Jesus tells Nicodemus that the Son of Man will be raised up so that those who believe in him will have eternal life.

During the period of Lent, we are asked to support ‘Project Compassion’, with donation boxes being held in every class. All donations, big and small, will be greatly appreciated by Caritas Australia. Some classes have started filling their ‘Project Compassion’ boxes with coins, which is greatly appreciated.

Inter House Swimming Carnival

Congratulations to all students who participated in the St Damien’s CPS Swimming Carnival last Friday. It was amazing to see how all students, no matter what their swimming ability, try their very best during the carnival. The weather was fantastic, just as was the way the students conducted themselves in and out of the pool.

The final outcome of the day for our Faction Houses was as follows:

·      1st:       Melros

·      2nd:      Florida

·      3rd:       Wannanup

·      4th:       Bouvard

There were some outstanding individual efforts on the day, with a number of our students being awarded with both ‘Runner’s Up’ and ‘Champion’ Boy and Girl swimmers for each Year level. Congratulations goes to these students for their individual successes, as follows:

·      Year 3 Runner Up Girl & Boy:             Mila Aursich & Taj Gilbert

·      Year 3 Champion Girl & Boy:             Imogen Steel, Milla Mulvay, Lily Gunton &

       Dane Dyson

·      Year 4 Runner Up Girl & Boy:             Madison Bevan & Kurtis Seymour

·      Year 4 Champion Girl & Boy:             Ruby Gillard & Lane Williams

·      Year 5 Runner Up Girl & Boy:             Elri Bezuidenhout & Tyler Penny

We had great support from the parent community as volunteers during the carnival. A big thank you to all of the parents who did volunteer and contribute to the success of the carnival; your assistance was greatly appreciated.

A special thank you to Mr Meunier and Miss Sanders for all of their efforts in planning, coordinating and running the swimming carnival this year. They both did an amazing job ensuring all students got the opportunity to participate and enjoy the event. Miss Sanders and Mr Meunier were supported by all of the school staff and I thank them for their efforts during the day, as well.

Some of the students in the school qualified to compete in the upcoming Inter-School Swimming Carnival, which will be held on Monday, 25 March, 2024. More information regarding this will be shared in the coming weeks.

Start of Day Supervision Time Changes

Thank you to all families for successfully transitioning this week to the new classroom opening times to start the day. Just a reminder that any students who arrive before the classrooms open at 8:30am, need to wait in the Kindergarten area, where they will remain supervised until the classrooms open.

Year 1/2 Outdoor Learning Area Update

Works has continued this week on the final element of the outdoor learning area for the Year 1 & 2students. We will hopefully have the shaded structure completed in the coming week or so, enabling full use of the area throughout the day.

League Tag Carnival

Tomorrow, we have a group of Year 5 and 6 students competing in the PSSA League Tag competition. They have been practicing for the carnival over the past week and we wish them the very best as they represent the school in this sport.
