World Teachers Day

Tomorrow is World Teachers Day! It is the day when we get the opportunity to say thank you to all teachers for the care, work and inspiration they provide to the students in their care each and every day. We are truly blessed for having the teachers we do at St Damien’s; their attributes and efforts in striving to make this the very best place for students to learn, grow and develop.

The theme for ‘World Teachers Day’ this year is ‘hats off to teachers’. So if you do get the opportunity tomorrow, please take a moment to acknowledge the teachers in the school for everything they do to make this a great place for the students.

School Busy Bee

My sincerest gratitude and thanks goes to all of the parents and staff who were able to assist us with the school working bee last Sunday. During the day all of the volunteers worked on upgrading the new area outside the Year 1/2 classrooms and cleaned up the basketball courts and ropes playground area. All of these look absolutely amazing and have been thoroughly enjoyed by the students coming back to school on Monday.

A special thanks goes to the Alcoa workers in the school for supporting the event and to Mark and Shae Chalwell for all of their hard work in organising the busy bee and for their efforts behind the scenes ensuring the busy bee was well attended and ran smoothly. The outcome of the working bee is a fantastic result; thank you to everyone involved.

Dads of St Damien's Camp Out

This weekend has finally arrived, with the annual ‘Dads of St Damien’s Camp Out’ being held on Saturday 28 October. A flyer has been sent out regarding this event. If you have not registered yet, please register your attendance, as per the flyer’s instruction, as soon as you can.

Year 5 Camp

On Monday and Tuesday I was fortunate enough to be able to attend the Year 5 camp at Dare Campsite in Dwellingup. Not only were we blessed with great weather, the students got the opportunity to participate in a number of fun and challenging outdoor activities, including rock climbing, abseiling, flying fox, archery and raft building.

All of the students are to be congratulated for the way they participated in all of the camp activities and for their excellent behaviour throughout.

Many thanks goes to Mrs Budgen and Ms Hicks, who assisted in the planning and organising of the camp and to Mr Hazebroek  also, who attended the camp this week.

Author's Visit

Yesterday we had author, Cristy Burne, visit the school and give a presentation to all of the students. Cristy was very funny and entertaining, but also inspired the students to write in a fun and creative way. We thank Mrs Denning for organising this opportunity for the students by inviting Cristy Burne into the school.

Bandanna Day

Tomorrow, Friday 27 October is ‘Bandanna Day’. During the week it has been great to see a lot of students wearing their bandannas in support of this initiative of helping kids with cancer. Bandanas have been selling through the front office and if you would like to purchase one, they are $5.

MCC Instrumental and Vocal Concert

Well done to all of the students who performed at the instrumental concert on today in front of the whole school. The students who performed are to be congratulated for their efforts in rehearsing and practicing for the concert and for entertaining all students in the school.

Telethon Champions

Well done to Tahlia Hart, Grace Lloyd and Isabella White for their fantastic effort over the past week, raising funds for Telethon. They managed to raise $619, by conducting bake sales over the past few weeks.

Congratulations Tahlia, Grace and Isabella for your fantastic work.

Behaviour Focus

The current behaviour focus is for ‘no playing on the playgrounds after 3:00pm’. What this means for students is that after the 3:00pm school bell, the playgrounds are out-of-bounds. Without staff supervision, the playgrounds can be prone to accidents occurring.

Beach Sports

The school’s Friday afternoon Beach Sports program this week, Friday 27 October, with Year 2 and 3 classes going to the beach. We hope the participating classes have a great time.

Assembly

We have a Whole School Assembly on this Friday 27 October, beginning at 8:45am in the hall, with the Year 5 Class presenting an item. St Damien’s and Principal Awards are also being presented. All parents and friends are welcome to come and join us.

School Calendar

Parents are encouraged to visit the school’s term planner on a regular basis to ensure you are informed about upcoming events during the year. The term planner can be accessed by clicking on the following link: School Events Calendar

Principal Awards

Over the past week some students have been sent to my office to receive a Principal’s Award for completing some exceptional work. I congratulate Mason Peters, Indiana Labouchardiere, Amelia Leask and Zarah Loreto, from Pre Primary Blue, for their fantastic Writing; and Grace Lloyd and Paige Cross, from Year 6 Blue, for their fantastic work in Mathematics. Well done and keep up the great work!
