Sorry Day and Reconciliation Week

Today is National Sorry Day, which is then followed by Reconciliation Week, from Friday 27th May until Friday 3rd June. The theme for Reconciliation Week is, ‘Be Brave, make change!’

Today, all of the students in the school engaged in a liturgy to mark the significance of Sorry Day and to pray for the reconciliation amongst all Australians. All classes also visited the Aboriginal garden in the school to participate in Sorry Day reflective activities.

'Vision for Learning' Parent Session

Thank you to all of the parents who were able to attend and contribute their thoughts and ideas to the school’s planning of the ‘Vision for Learning’ document; your input is in shaping what student learning will look and be like into the future at St Damien’s Catholic Primary School.

The next part of the process is to collect the student’s thoughts and opinions regarding how they can be successful learners, which will occur over the coming days.

NAPLAN

The NAPLAN assessments conclude this week for students in Years 3 and 5. We will receive the results for these later in the year. Congratulations goes to all of the Year 3 and 5 students for the way they all tried their very best throughout all of the NAPLAN assessment schedule.

South-West Principals Network Meeting

Today and tomorrow, the school is hosting the South West Principals Network days. The network days provide an opportunity for 16 Principals in the south-west region to come together to network and receive new information and directives regarding the governance and operations of Catholic Primary Schools. All visiting Principals also have the opportunity to tour the school and view all of the wonderful things happening throughout the classrooms.

Staffing Update

After 8 years of service to the school, Mr Niall McCloskey, who is currently on leave, will not be returning to St Damien’s Catholic Primary School. We thank Mr McCloskey for all his work and efforts in providing a fun and engaging education for the students in his care and we wish him the very best for his future endeavours.
