Inter School Athletics Carnival
Tomorrow, a number of our students in Years 3 to 6 will be representing St Damien’s School at the Inter School Athletics carnival. The carnival is being held at Halls Head Primary School, with the jumps and throws events beginning from 8:15am and the track events beginning at 10:00am.
We wish the competing students the very best and congratulate them for all of the extra training they have participated in in recent weeks, getting ready for the carnival..
Summer Uniform
As mentioned in last week’s newsletter, all students are expected to be in full summer uniform beginning Monday 25 October. Please contact the front office if you require any assistance with the school summer uniform.
School Photos
Apologies to the necessity for rescheduling the school photos for our students, particularly in Years 4 to 6, but the recent inclement weather required the Inter School Athletics carnival back up day to be moved, clashing with the scheduled photo day. The second day of school photos is scheduled as follows:
Friday 29 October:
- Family photos
- 3 Year Old Kindy Ducklings
- 3 Year Old Kindy Joeys
- Yr 5B
- Yr 6B
- Yr 6G
- House Captains
- Student Councillors
- Green Team
- Catch Up/Missed students
Bandanna Day
Friday 29 October is ‘Bandanna Day’. To support this initiative, the school Student Councillors will be selling these during all of Week 3, from Monday 25 October to Friday 29 October, at a cost of $5 each. Students can purchase and wear the bandannas throughout each day of Week 3.

School Cyclic Review
Next Week, the school is undertaking a ‘Cyclic Review’ process, with a panel of representatives from CEWA visiting the school on Tuesday and Wednesday. The purpose of the ‘Cyclic Review’ is to reflect on the progress made by the school over the past 5 years and to set new strategic actions and goals that will enable the school to continue to grow and develop over the next 5 years. The panel will be meeting and having conversations with staff, students and families of the school to assist them in providing a review report, for the school to use as affirmation and inspiration for the next few years ahead.
Friday 'House' Assemblies
Our first ‘House Assembly’ is being held tomorrow, Friday 22 October, beginning at 8:45am in the hall. The usual ‘Wicked Work’, and ‘Rising Star’ awards will be issued to the deserved students. Parents and friends of the school community are welcome to come and join us.
Wickepin Parade Update
This week, the capital works have continued on the southern side of the school, with a Colourbond fence being installed along the Wickepin Parade side of the school, outside the maintenance shed and Fr Vincent’s house. The fence has been generously installed, at no cost, by EastCourt Developers, as part of the whole Wickepin Parade upgrade program. Once completed (by tomorrow), the Colourbond fence will conclude the capital works on this side of the school, for the time being, and will add to the increased security and privacy of the school.

PSSA Tackle Rugby Carnival
Next Wednesday 27 October, a selected group of both girls and boys will be representing the school at the PSSA Tackle Rugby competition. We wish these students the very best and hope they enjoy the experience.
Student Celebrations
There are times when students go ‘above-and-beyond’ in the way the support and care for those less fortunate or people who are need. Over the weekend, there were a number of students who have done such a thing.
Firstly, to Jade Winder, Amber Reid, Thomas Winder and Hope Winder, for their amazing effort in setting up a stall in their local area, selling cookies, popcorn, fresh brewed coffee and handmade hair scrunchies and raising an amazing $555. All their proceeds are going to Telethon.
Secondly, to Isla Duckrell, who donated her lengths of hair to ‘Variety Children’s Charity-Hair with Heart’. This is something that Isla had decided to do all on her own and is her 3rd donation of hair to Variety Kids. Her first donation was in Pre-primary and she just grows it until it’s long enough to donate again. There is a fundraising page set up by Isla, if people would like to donate: https://hairwithheart.variety.org.au/s/5827/5827
All of these students are to be congratulated for their efforts and generosity.

Whole School St Damien's Assembly
There is a whole school ‘St Damien’s’ assembly next Friday 29 October, beginning at 8:45am, with the Year 4 class presenting an item. Parents and friends of the school community are welcome to come and join us for the assembly.

This week some students have been sent to my office to receive a Principal’s Award for completing some exceptional work. I congratulate Bryce McKay, Mila Blick, Charlie Vickers, Sophie Shannen, Nate Stedman and Madison Bevan, from Year 1 Blue, for their great work in writing. Well done and keep up the great work!
