Principal’s Blog 20 October 2022

Welcome, Fr Christian

After Fr Vincent’s send off last week, we welcome Fr Christian to the St Damien’s Community. Fr Christian has been the Parish Priest in Albany for the past 10 years and he is excited to get into the school to meet the students, staff and families over the coming weeks.

Inter House Swimming Carnival

Our school Inter House Swimming Carnival is taking place next Tuesday 25 October, at the MARC, for all students in Years 3 to 6. The students have been allocated events to swim in, based on the results of the trials held earlier in the year.

Parents are welcome to come down to the MARC, to support the students and cheer for their House factions, throughout the day. At the conclusion of the carnival, students are permitted to go home with their parent(s), but must be signed out with their classroom teacher prior to existing the MARC.

The weather is looking to be a fairly fine day, which will be great for the carnival. I wish all of the students the very best and hope they enjoy the day as they try their hardest swimming for their house factions.

Dads Campout

This Saturday 22 October is the St Damien’s Dads Camp Out. This is a fantastic event for families to participate in over the weekend. Please see the flyer that has been sent out online regarding this, for more information.

Telethon Champions

Well done to Jade, Amber, Thomas and Hope for their fantastic effort over the past week, raising funds for Telethon. They have managed over $1100 so far, through the sales of their dog treats, as well as the coffee and cake they sold over the weekend. With Telethon on this weekend, there is still time to make a donation, if interested, by clicking on the following link:

Beach Sports

The school’s Friday afternoon Beach Sports program will resume this week, beginning on Friday 21 October, with our Year 2, 4 and 5 classes going to the beach. We hope the participating classes have a great time.

School Choir Incursion

Today, our school choir engaged in an incursion, being facilitated by Cass Sweeny, who is a local music artist and vocal coach. The choir had a great time rehearsing the song, ‘Don’t Wanna Go Home’ then performing it with Cass.

Crazy Sock Day

On Friday we celebrated Mental Health Week by having a ‘Crazy Sock’ Day as well as a ‘Wellness Walk’ in the afternoon. Well done to all of the students who participated in these events and thank you to the parents who were able to come and join us for the ‘Wellness Walk’. We also thank Mrs Bright for organising these events.

Summer Uniform

Thank you to all families for ensuring all students are now wearing the correct summer uniform. Your efforts with this are greatly appreciated.
