All Saints Day

On Wednesday 1 November, we celebrated a whole school Mass for our years 4 to 6 and a liturgy for our students in Kindy to Year 3, to celebrate ‘All Saints Day’. We thank Fr Christian for celebrating the Mass and liturgy with us and Mr Hazebroek for all of his work in preparing and planning the Mass and liturgy.

Today is All Souls Day, where we set aside the day to pray and honour the faithful departed.

Dads of St Damien's Camp Out

Last Saturday we hosted the St Damien’s Dads Camp Out. This was a fantastic event for families to participate in over the weekend. We hope all of those who camped out enjoyed the experience. Well done and thank you to Mark Chalwell for coordinating and organising this event and to all of the dads and students who were able to attend.

ACER Testing

Over the past fortnight, all students in the school from Year 1 to 6 have been participating in the school’s ACER Progressive Achievement (PAT) assessments testing program, for literacy and numeracy. The PAT assessments are designed to support our school in collecting meaningful information about students’ abilities in a Literacy and Numeracy and to give us good information about what academic growth has been achieved over the year by the students.

Results from the PAT assessments are used to inform the end of year outcomes for students as well as assist the school and teachers in planning meaningful and effective future curriculum programs to support the students’ needs and abilities. As a school we certainly value the information the PAT assessments provide in ensuring continual growth is achieved across the school, particularly in Literacy and Numeracy.

Year 6 Bicycle Education

Today was the conclusion of the 4-week Bicycle Education program for the Year 6 students, where they got to venture out and ride on the footpaths and cycleways surrounding the school. The students are to be congratulated for the safe and responsible way they have ridden their bikes over the past month and hopefully have the knowledge and skills to enable them to have a fun and safe Rottnest camp, where their bikes are the main source of transportation.

Behaviour Focus

The current behaviour focus is for ‘no playing on the playgrounds after 3:00pm’. What this means for students is that after the 3:00pm school bell, the playgrounds are out-of-bounds. Without staff supervision, the playgrounds can be prone to accidents occurring.

Beach Sports

The school’s Friday afternoon Beach Sports program this week, Friday 3 November, with our Year 3, 4 and 6 classes going to the beach. We hope the participating classes have a great time.

We have a House Assembly on this Friday 3 November, beginning at 8:45am in the hall, with Rising Star and Wicked Work certificates being presented. All parents and friends are welcome to come and join us.

School Calendar

Parents are encouraged to visit the school’s term planner on a regular basis to ensure you are informed about upcoming events during the year. The term planner can be accessed by clicking on the following link: School Events Calendar
