Book Week Parade

What a great celebration of ‘Book Week’ we had today. The day began with a fantastic Book Week Parade, where all of the students looked amazing dressed up as their favourite character from a book they have read. In the afternoon, the students were also treated to a performance by the ‘Police Pipe Band’, which was a pleasure to listen to.

On Wednesday, we had ‘Book Week’ incursion, where they were entertained by ‘Perform Musicals’ with a drama performance about the ‘Book Week’ theme.

Thank you to all of the families of the school for assisting their child/children in getting dressed up for this occasion and congratulations to all of the students for fully immersing themselves into the spirit of Book Week.

School Athletics Carnival

The School Athletics carnival is being held next Friday 27 August. The carnival is for all students in Prep Primary to Year 6. Whilst there will be some competitive spirit amongst the students, the main focus of the carnival is about participation and fun.

Next Wednesday, some students in Years Prep Primary to Year 6 who qualified, will be competing in the ‘Jumps and Throws’ day. Parent help to measure and record student results is needed for this day, so if you are able to assist, please contact Miss Sanders or the office.

We hope and pray for wonderful weather next week so our athletics carnival can go ahead smoothly.

State Primary Schools Cross Country Championship

Congratulations to the 8 students who competed in the Primary Schools State Cross Country Championships, at the UWA Sports Park, last Thursday 12 August. With up to 350 competitors in each race, the competing St Damien’s students all finished from 35th to 90th place, which is an amazing effort, given they were running against the best cross country runners the state has to offer. We are very proud of not only their efforts whilst racing, but for their enthusiastic and dedicated approach to what is a very tough event to participate in.

PSSA Basketball

Well done to our Senior Girls and Boys basketball teams who competed in the PSSA Basketball competition, last Tuesday. The girl’s team is to be congratulated for their efforts in finishing fourth in the event, with some very good games being played. The boys were very successful, winning all of their preliminary matches, only to lose the final by 6 points. Well done both teams for their fantastic efforts and competitive spirit shown throughout the competition.

State Primary Schools Orienteering

On Wednesday 18 August we had a number of senior students competing in the Primary Schools Orienteering Championships, held in Mundaring. After taking the long drive up to the orienteering course, all of the students are to be congratulated for their efforts in navigating and running their way around the orienteering course.

Friday Morning Assembly

There is a whole school assembly this Friday 13 August, beginning at 8:45am, with the Year 3 class presenting an item. Parents and friends of the school community are welcome to come and join us for the assembly.
