Principal’s Blog 18 April 2024

Welcome back to term 2 for the school year. I hope all families had an enjoyable holiday break and it is great to see all of the students settled back into school and engaging in the rigours of the school routines so quickly and effortlessly.

We have been truly blessed with nice warm weather to start the term, and I am excited for the term ahead, as we continue to build on the hard work and efforts from term 1 and also continue to return to normal routines and operations.

Next Thursday 25 April is ANZAC day. It is a day when we honour all of the men and women who have participated in wars, conflicts and peacekeeping operations around the world, including the ANZACs who fought at Gallipoli in Turkey during World War I, as part of the ANZAC Day celebrations.

The school will be having an ANZAC Day service on Wednesday 24 April, beginning at 11:30am in the hall. We will also have our Head Girl and Head Boy laying a wreath at the Dawesville dawn service, on ANZAC day morning.

A reminder that ANZAC Day is a public holiday, so the school will not be open.

Grandparents Day

Next Friday 26 April, we are inviting all Grandparents into the school to celebrate, ‘Grandparents Day’. The format for the day is as follows:

·      8:45am – 9:15am: Classroom Visits

·      9:30am: Grandparents Day Liturgy

·      10:30am: Grandparents Morning Tea (in the school courtyard)

We look forward to this wonderful event.

PSSA Sports

Our PSSA Winter Sports competition starts next Friday 26 April, with students in Year 5 and 6 competing against Halls Head Primary School in the sports of football, netball, soccer, hockey and volleyball. More information regarding where the sports will be played will be shared with parents next week.

Staff Professional Development Day

On Monday, all staff participated in a Professional Development day, focusing on our whole school approach to Literacy. The Day was facilitated by Margie Backhouse, from ‘Literacy Impact’, which has been developed by a leading expert in research based approaches to Literacy, Julie Scali. Throughout the day, the staff were affirmed by their current practice, challenged by some new ideas and taken away strategies that can be implemented in the classroom immediately. We will continue to engage with the ‘Literacy Impact’ group into the future as we continue to embed our Structured Literacy approach throughout the school.

Winter Uniform

Starting back at school this term, it has been great to see students in Years 3 to 6 beginning to wear the school winter uniform. As mentioned previously, the first two weeks of the term will be used as a period for students to transition into wearing the full school winter uniform, by Monday 29 April 2024.

Please contact the office if you have any questions regarding the purchasing of the School Winter Uniform in readiness for term 2.

School Calendar

Parents are encouraged to visit the school’s term planner on a regular basis to ensure you are informed about upcoming events during the year. The term planner can be accessed by clicking on the following link: School Events Calendar

Principal Awards

Over the past week a student has been sent to my office to receive a Principal’s Award for completing some exceptional work. I congratulate Penny Morcombe, from Year 1 Blue, for her great work in Spelling. Well done and keep up the great work!

God Bless,
