Term 4 Welcome
Welcome back to St Damien’s CPS for term 4. I hope you have had the opportunity to spend some family time over the past fortnight. Term 4 is typically a busy, but very rewarding one, with all of the hard work committed earlier in the year coming to fruition towards the end. It is great to see all of the students settling back into school well and I hope they have all enjoyed their break and are re-energised, ready to complete their last 9 weeks of school for 2023.

Crazy Sock Day
This Friday 13 October, we are celebrating Mental Health Week by having a ‘Crazy Sock’ Day. All students are invited to wear their craziest and most bizarre socks to school this Friday, to celebrate the event.
During the week the students have been engaging in fun activities to acknowledge the importance of positive mental health in our lives, including lunch time discos and a funniest joke competition. Thanks goes to Mrs Bright and the staff Wellbeing Team for organising the activities throughout the week.
School Busy Bee Volunteers
The date of the school Busy Bee is fast approaching, happening next Sunday 22 October, beginning at 9:00am. We have a list of areas that need to be attended to around the school, including:
· Planting of trees and grass outside the Year 1/2 area
· Aboriginal garden area
· Ropes playground
· Basketball courts
· Fruit tree orchid
· Other minor landscaping tasks
If you are able to assist, please come along for an hour or 2 if you able to help out. Please bring along any rakes, shovels, wheelbarrows and/or blower vacs that you have that can assist with the cleaning on the day. You can register your help by clicking on the following link: Busy Bee Volunteer Registration Link
This Busy Bee is part or the Alcoa grant initiative, where a generous donation has been made to the school to carry out maintenance and improvement duties.
Summer Uniform
As mentioned in my beginning of term correspondence, students in Years 3 to 6 will have until next Monday, 16 October to be wearing the correct summer uniform this term. Please contact the front office if you require any assistance with the school summer uniform.
Sharks Swimming Club
The Sharks Swimming is up and running this term. If you would like your child to be able to improve their swimming stroke and increase their fitness, please see the staff in the front office about attending these morning swimming sessions, at Kirby Swim.

Dads of St Damien's Camp Out
A reminder that the annual ‘Dads of St Damien’s Camp Out’ is on again this year, scheduled for Saturday 28 October. A flyer has been sent out regarding this event. Please register your attendance, as per the flyer’s instruction, if you intend on attending this event.
Behaviour Focus
The current behaviour focus is for ‘students to remain in the Kindy area before 8:15am’. What this means for students who do arrive to school early, from 8:00am, they are required to wait in the Kindy area where they are supervised by a staff member, not outside their classrooms or around the school.
Year 6 Bicycle Education
The bike rack was certainly full this week as the Year 6 students started their Bicycle Education program. The aim of the program is to assist the students in riding their bicycles more safely and confidently and to develop their riding skills. The timing of the program coincides with the upcoming Year 6 camp in Rottnest, where the students will be required to ride in a large group as their main mode of transport. At the conclusion of the Bicycle Education program, the students will participate in a ride on the footpaths and cycleways surrounding the school.

Whole School Assembly
There is a whole school assembly being held this Friday 13 October, in the Steve Dowie Hall, with the Year 6 class presenting an item. The assembly will begin at 8:45am, with Principal’s Awards being presented to the deserved students. Parents and friends of the school community are welcome to join us.
School Calendar
Parents are encouraged to visit the school’s term planner on a regular basis to ensure you are informed about upcoming events during the year. The term planner can be accessed by clicking on the following link: School Events Calendar
