School Photos

A reminder that school photos that were to take place next week, have been rescheduled for Monday 17 October, Tuesday 18 October and Friday 21 October (Term 4, Week 2). Whilst we endeavoured to conduct the school photos next week, a number of implications have arisen that would have prevented the success of these.

In readiness for school photos next term, students are required to be wearing their full summer uniform. Parents are asked to retain the photo order forms sent home recently until the photo dates in term 4.

I apologise for any inconvenience the change in dates for the school photos may have caused.

School Mass and Confirmation Preparation Mass

This Sunday 14th August beginning at 8:30am, all families are invited to join us for a school Mass at the St Damien’s Parish. This Mass coincides with the Preparation Mass being attended by our Year 6 Confirmation candidates. Students and staff from the school will be participating in the choir and readings for the Mass.

Book Week Incursion

The theme for the 2022 Book Week is, ‘Dreaming with eyes open…’. As Book Week approaches, occurring from Monday 22nd August until Friday 26th August, we will be having a Book Week Incursion on Wednesday 17th August, for all students in the school. The Incursion will be performed by ‘Performance Education’ and will take place in the Steve Dowie Hall at the following times:

·      9:45am: Kindy to Year 2:

·      11:45am: Year 3 to 6:

The following Monday 22nd August, we will be having our Book Week parade, where all students are encouraged to dress up as their favourite book character for the day.

Swimming Lessons

Swimming Lessons begin next week for students in Pre Primary and Year 2 Blue. These lessons will run for a two week period, being held at Kirby Swim in Erskine. We hope the students enjoy the lessons and improve in their swimming skills and abilities across the fortnight.

ACARA Item Trial

This week, we had a select number of students in Years 3 and 5 sit the ACARA Item Trial assessments in Reading and Numeracy. These trials are set to sample new questions for future NAPLAN assessments. All assessments were conducted online and we thank the selected students for their participation.

Car Parking

It has been brought to my attention there have been incidents of young children being left in cars, unsupervised. Whilst I understand the inconvenience it can be to have to unload a number of children from cars at any given time, the safety of our children must prevail this inconvenience. As an alternative, students can be dropped in one of the kiss and drive areas of the school, to enable their safe entry into the school.

This coming Monday there is a funeral scheduled in the church in the afternoon, which may affect the parking around the school in the afternoon. I do ask that you take extra care on Monday, especially if there is increased traffic and congestion around the school.

Inter-School Basketball

Next Tuesday 16th August, we have a number of students from Year 6 representing the school at the Inter-School Basketball competition. We wish these students the very best and hope they enjoy the experience.

Whole School Assembly

There is a whole school assembly being held this Friday 12th August, in the Steve Dowie Hall. The assembly will begin at 8:45am, with St Damien’s and Principal’s Awards being presented to the deserved students. There is no class assembly item at the whole school assembly this week. Parents and friends of the school community are welcome to join us.
